Vol. 512 No. 2

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grants.

Ivan Yates

Question:

154 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Education and Science if an application for a post leaving certificate grant for a person (details supplied) in County Wexford will be approved in view of the fact the file is awaiting clarification from his Department regarding her eligibility. [25703/99]

I understand the candidate in question was in receipt of a maintenance grant under the European Social Fund-aided maintenance grants scheme for students attending post leaving certificate courses in respect of the fashion and design course at the School of Commerce, Cork in the 1998-99 academic year. A query arose regarding her eligibility for grant assistance in respect of the second year of her course. Details of her case were submitted to my Department for a decision as to her eligibility. Following clarification of her case, and having established that she progressed to second year of her course in the 1999-2000 academic year, it has been determined that the student is eligible to be considered for grant assistance under the terms of the European Social Fund-aided maintenance grants scheme for post leaving certificate students, 1998.

County Wexford Vocational Education Committee has been advised of this decision.
