Written Answers. - Traffic Wardens.

Austin Deasy

110 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 69 of 23 November 1999 regarding assaults on traffic wardens applies to Dublin only; and, if not, the total figures for the country. [26521/99]

I wish to confirm that my reply to Question No. 69 of 23 November 1999 referred to traffic wardens employed in the Dublin metropolitan area only who are employed by the Garda Commissioner.

Traffic wardens outside the Dublin area are employed by local authorities and the provision of safe systems of work is a matter for these local authorities as employer.

Any allegation of assault against traffic wardens which are brought to the attention of the Garda Síochána are, of course, investigated by the Garda.
