Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

116 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Education and Science the supports offered to a Down's syndrome student (details supplied) in County Donegal; the resources, if any, she is entitled to; if he has received the inspector's report; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26502/99]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that my Department has allocated a resource teacher post to cater for the needs of the pupil in question and some other children with special needs in the area.

My Department has also recently sanctioned child care support of 12.5 hours per week to cater for the needs of the pupil in question. A grant of £1,500 has also been sanctioned for the purchase of computer equipment for this pupil.
