Vol. 512 No. 5

Written Answers. - Farmers' Appeals Process.

Donal Moynihan

Question:

16 Mr. D. Moynihan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the progress, if any, made towards the establishment of an independent unit to adjudicate on appeals by farmers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26390/99]

This issue is under active consideration. I have received submissions from the farmers' representative organisations and I will consult with them to ensure the proposals I bring forward take account of all relevant experience to date. It will also be necessary to ensure the relevant legal and accountability requirements are respected.

As soon as the consultation process is complete, I will be in a position to take final decisions on the matter.
