Vol. 512 No. 7

Written Answers. - Health Check Programme.

Bernard Allen

Question:

147 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans, if any, he has to introduce a cradle to grave health check programme. [27187/99]

It is not clear from the Deputy's question what type of health check programmes he has in mind. There is a wide range of programmes currently in place designed to promote and protect health. These include a wide range of checks carried out on young babies and children, the primary and booster immunisation programmes. In addition, national screening programmes for cervical and breast cancer are being developed. A feasibility study looking at the introduction of a screening programme for those at risk of developing heart disease is currently being examined in the context of the implementation of the cardiovascular health strategy.
