Vol. 512 No. 7

Written Answers. - Road Network.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

187 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the proposals, if any, he has to publish a revised version of the investment in road improvements 2000 - 2006 (details supplied) regarding the development of the Waterford to Dublin road; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27201/99]

The strategic framework for the development of the national roads network over the period 2000 to 2006 is set out in the national development plan. The NDP, together with the Community Support Framework, when agreed with the European Commission, and the subsequent Economic Infrastructure Operational Programme, will form the strategic policy context for the provision of national roads over the next seven years. It is a matter for the NRA, within this framework, to promote the more detailed programming of the work required and to manage, in co-operation with local authorities, the planning, design and implementation of individual road development projects. In this context the NRA will assess the best solution, including route and road type for improving Waterford to Dublin road links.

It is not proposed to revise the development strategy for national primary roads as set out in the NDP.
