145 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Health and Children the legislation, if any, he will introduce to regulate the use of reproductive technology to ensure no future disputes arise concerning the parentage of children born as a result of the use of either or both donor eggs and sperm and to require the retention and availability of records of donors health profile. I propose to take Questions Nos. 50 and 145 together.

The issues raised by the Deputy are ones which come within the domain of assisted human reproduction. As such this embraces a wide range of very sensitive and complex issues with associated legal, ethical, social and medical implications. I intend to bring forward proposals to Government early in the new year to address this complex area.
