Vol. 512 No. 7

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

76 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will provide the necessary funds to the Southern Health Board to enable it to provide a gynaecology ward in Tralee General Hospital, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27086/99]

The provision of gynaecological services at Tralee General Hospital is the statutory responsibility of the Southern Health Board, in the first instance. The board is at present developing its service plan for 2000 on the basis of funding notified to it in my Department's letter of determination. I have provided additional funding of £1.422 million for 2000 to meet the costs of service developments in the Southern Health Board hospitals, including gynaecology services at Tralee General Hospital.
