Vol. 512 No. 8

Written Answers. - National Car Test.

Liam Aylward

Question:

77 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if, in view of the cost of the national car test and other costs likely to be incurred because of this test, he will consider having a reduced fee introduced for all social welfare recipients and low paid workers who are not in a position to buy either new or nearly new cars. [27376/99]

I refer to the reply to Question No. 101 of 2 November 1999. As stated, the national car test – NCT – has been established on a public private partnership and self-financing basis. Within this framework, it is envisaged that all users of the NCT should pay for their biennial tests as part of the general costs of private motoring.
