Vol. 512 No. 8

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

79 Ms Coughlan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the proposals, if any, he has to ensure that a new sewerage scheme is provided in Glencolmcille, County Donegal. [27378/99]

This scheme was not included in the 1999 water and sewerage services investment programme and, accordingly, it comes within the scope of my Department's circular letter L9/98 which asked each local authority to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in its area and to prepare a prioritised list of projects based on the assessment. An assessment of needs as adopted by the elected members of Donegal County Council was received in my Department. The priority list will be taken into consideration in the framing of future water and sewerage services investment under the National Development Plan 2000-06.

However, Glencolmcille sewerage scheme was not amongst the projects which the council have recommended for early progression to planning and design stage.
