Vol. 513 No. 1

Written Answers. - AI Stations.

Michael Ring

Question:

232 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the position regarding the three AI stations (details supplied) in County Mayo; and the effect the closure of these stations will have for farmers in the county. [1168/00]

I am informed that the North Western Cattle Breeding Society Limited has replaced its three AI substations in Mayo as well as those in the other counties serviced by it with a new and modern AI central call office system to improve the quality and efficiency of the service it provides. This facility is operational 24 hours a day and can be accessed by phone at no extra charge or inconvenience to the users. Farmers can also continue to contact the AI technicians directly. The number and location of technicians is not affected by this change.
