Question:

255 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the animal welfare organisations which applied for and were refused funding in 1999; the way in which the £1 million allocated to animal welfare in the national development plan will be spent; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Question:

282 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the 22 organisations involved in the delivery of animal care and welfare services which will receive grants totalling £312,000; and the organisations to which funding totalling £902,000 was made available in each of the years from 1995 to date. [1519/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 255 and 282 together.

The National Development Plan 2000 to 2006 provides for grant assistance to pig producers to enable them to reach the higher animal welfare standards imposed by European Union rules. The precise disbursement of funding under this heading has yet to be determined.
