Question:

312 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the number of sheep culled in 1999 under each category in factories under the cull ewe scheme. [1967/00]

Under the 1998 ewe supplementary measure sheep were culled in factories under three categories namely, boner, condemned and commercial. According to my Departments records the numbers culled under each category are as follows: boner: 35,989; condemned: 77,967; and, commercial: 7,445.

313 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the amount paid to factories in 1999 under the cull ewe scheme. [1968/00]

The total amount paid to the meat factories in 1998 and 1999 under the 1998 ewe supplementary measure was £887,637.00.
