Vol. 513 No. 1

Written Answers. - Extensification Premium.

John Perry

Question:

318 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the reason victuallers who operate an abattoir business are unable to claim extensification payments; the plans, if any, he has to set up a separate register for victuallers to allow them to claim their subsidies; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1973/00]

There are no restrictions on victuallers who operate an abattoir business from claiming extensification premium payments, simply because of their occupation. Extensification premium grants are paid to producers on animals which qualify for suckler cow premium and-or special beef premium provided the stocking densities on their holdings are below certain limits. If a victualler who operates an abattoir business is also a producer who obtains special beef premium and-or suckler cow premium he can also apply for extensification premium. There is no necessity to set up a separate register for victuallers to allow them claim suckler cow premium, special beef premium and extensification premium.
