Vol. 513 No. 1

Written Answers. - Taxation Matters.

John Gormley

Question:

332 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Finance his views on whether fiscal matters affecting the environment within the EU should be decided by qualified majority voting and not by unanimity; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1791/00]

Ireland, along with some other member states, has a long-standing adherence to the policy of unanimity in all matters affecting taxation. While I believe this policy should be maintained, I understand the question may be considered in the context of the next Intergovernmental Conference.
