Question:342 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Finance the plans, if any, he has to re-introduce the scrappage deal in view of the national car test on all old cars. [1258/00]
Written Answers. - Car Scrappage Scheme.
I have no plans to re-introduce the car scrappage scheme which ended on 31 December, 1997. A total of 60,600 cars were scrapped under the scheme. Sales of new cars are soaring – total net registrations for 1999 at 172,456 were 28,449 – 19.76% – ahead of 1998 and 37,241 – 27.54% – ahead of 1997.
