Question:

352 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Finance the personal tax allowance which will apply for tax payers from April 2000 for a single person, married couple, widowed and one parent family; and the tax bands which will apply to single or widowed persons, one parent family, one income married family and two income family. [1364/00]

The information requested by the Deputy is set out as follows:

Personal tax-free allowances for the tax year 2000/01:f7>1

Single person

£4,700

Widowed person (without dependent children)

£5,700

Married couple

£9,400

Widowed and other one-parent families

£9,400

Income tax bands for the tax year 2000/01:

Single and widowed persons (without children)

£17,000

Widowed and other one-parent families

£20,150

One-income married family

£28,000

Two-income married family

£34,000(2)

(1) All basic personal tax-free allowances will be available at the standard rate of tax from the 2000-01 tax year.
(2) Subject to a maximum band of £28,000 for either spouse.
