Vol. 513 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tax Allowances.

John Perry

Question:

368 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Finance the allowance a person (details supplied) in County Sligo will receive in the budget; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1956/00]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that based on the figures included in the recent budget statement and the taxpayer's current level of income, the taxpayer's tax-free allowances for the tax year 2000/01 are estimated as follows:

Married Allowance

£9,400 (standard rated)

=£4,700

PAYE Allowance

£1,000 (standard rated)

=£500

Blind Allowance

£3,000 (standard rated)

=£1,500

V.H.I.

£676 (standard rated)

=£338

Mortgage Interest

£1,080 (standard rated)

=£540

Expenses

(non standard rated)

=£295

Table ‘S' Allowance

=£15,500

The balance of the taxpayer's income will be liable to tax at 44%.
The figures will appear in the tax free allowance in the above form because the taxpayer pays tax at the top rate.
