Vol. 513 No. 1

Written Answers. - Transfer Application.

John Perry

Question:

369 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Finance if a transfer will be put in place for a person (details supplied) in view of the fact that she resided with her mother who is the only survivor of a lung and heart transplant. [1957/00]

The position is that the officer concerned was recruited by the Civil Service Commissioners for the Office of the Revenue Commissioners in Dublin, where she was appointed as a clerical officer in October, 1999. As a new entrant, she is expected by the Revenue Commissioners to serve for a period of two years before being considered for transfer to another location. The officer was notified in writing of this condition in advance of taking up duty in the Office of the Revenue Commissioners in Dublin.

While the Office of the Revenue Commissioners has every sympathy with the personal difficulties which the individual in question is experiencing, any exception to normal, agreed, practice in relation to transfer lists would give rise to considerable unrest and, potentially, complaints from others on the list who would have been displaced and may feel that their personal circumstances are equally deserving of exceptional treatment.

When the two year period has been completed, and should the officer's place on a transfer list be reached, the officer may then be considered for transfer. The application for transfer has already been noted and forwarded to departments with offices in relevant locations.
