Written Answers. - Spending on Health.

Alan Shatter

Question:

376 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Health and Children the percentage of GDP spent on health care in 1999. [1135/00]

The provisional outturn for gross non capital health expenditure in 1999 is £3,658.241 million. The Department of Finance estimate of gross domestic product in 1999, estimated at, and published on budget day is £66,850 million. Therefore, non capital public health expenditure as a percentage of GDP is estimated at 5.5%. Capital spending in 1999 was £170 million, or 0.25% of GDP.
