Vol. 513 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

John Dennehy

Question:

425 Mr. Dennehy asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has received a submission regarding the provision of a rehabilitation unit in the Cork region; if so, the response, if any, his Department has made; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1209/00]

The provision of health services in this instance is the statutory responsibility of the Southern Health Board. However, I understand from the Southern Health Board that the development of a comprehensive consultant – led rehabilitation service is currently being examined by the board and that discussions are on-going with the rehab group to develop a joint proposal for the establishment of a specialist rehabilitation service for the region. Discussions have also been held with my Department in this regard.

I will consider any proposals that the Southern Health Board may make following the conclusion of these discussions.
