Vol. 513 No. 1

Written Answers. - Speech Therapy Service.

Denis Naughten

Question:

426 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will ensure that funding is provided for the provision of a language unit in County Roscommon in view of the fact that it is one of only a small number of counties without such a unit; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1210/00]

The development of services, including speech and language therapy services, is a matter for the relevant health board in consultation with its regional co-ordinating committee for physical and sensory disability services.

This year a total of £7 million – with a full year cost of £14 million in the year 2001 – has been provided for the development of services for people with physical and sensory disabilities. Of this, £697,000 – with a full year cost of £1.228 million – was provided to the Western Health Board to allocate, in consultation with its co-ordinating committee, on agreed priority developments for people with physical and sensory disabilities.
