Vol. 513 No. 1

Written Answers. - Local Authority Funding.

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin

Question:

556 Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the funding proposals, if any, he has for community and enterprise directorates. [26697/99]

It is a matter for each local authority to determine its own expenditure requirements in respect of the establishment of community and enterprise directorates. Grants totalling £339.3 million have been allocated to local authorities from the local government fund in respect of the year 2000 as a contribution towards their general purpose needs including the community and enterprise directorates. In arriving at this figure, which represents an increase of 4.8% over the corresponding 1999 allocations, the Minister had regard to the additional costs arising in respect of these directorates. It remains a matter for individual local authorities to decide how its local government fund allocation is spent.

In common with other local authority costs, those costs associated with the operation of the community and enterprise directorates will be taken into account in the context of the needs and resources distribution model currently being developed for the allocation of moneys from the local government fund.
