562 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will extend the thatching grant to include all houses whether traditional thatched houses or new build; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1783/00]

Minister of State at the Department of the Environment and Local Government (Mr. Molloy):

The scheme of thatching grants operated by my Department was introduced to assist in the conservation of traditional thatched roofs. I have no plans to amend the terms and conditions of the scheme to include grant aid for the building of new thatched houses.
