Vol. 513 No. 1

Written Answers. - Taxi Licences.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

583 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will reserve a proportion of the new 3,000 taxi plates for the proposed extension of the Dublin taximeter area to the north Kildare area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1983/00]

The measures approved by the Government for the grant of a large number of new taxi licences relate to the Dublin taximeter area, which comprises the county borough of Dublin and the administrative counties of Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown, Fingal and South Dublin. No extension of the Dublin taximeter area is envisaged for the purposes of these measures. In the meantime, the creation of taximeter areas beyond Dublin would be matter for consideration by the local authorities concerned.
