Vol. 513 No. 1

Written Answers. - Coillte Teoranta.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

639 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands further to Parliamentary Question No. 172 of 29 September 1999 her views on whether the best option for the future of Donadea Forest Park, County Kildare, is that it be transferred to Dúchas should Coillte be privatised; if so, if she will indicate this to the Department of Marine and Natural Resources; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1931/00]

As stated in my reply to the Deputy's parliamentary question on 29 September 1999, part of the woodland at Donadea is a proposed natural heritage area and will therefore enjoy protection under the Wildlife (Amendment) Bill when enacted.

In addition, the Castle and Tower House at Donadea are Recorded Monuments and are afforded legal protection under the National Monuments (Amendment) Act, 1994. Under section 12(3) of that Act, the owner or occupier must give two months notice to my Department of any proposals to carry out works at these sites.
I am not in a position to comment on Coillte's future as it is outside my remit.
