Vol. 513 No. 1

Written Answers. - Visa Applications.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

691 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if a visa will be granted to persons (details supplied) whose mother and two sisters are already in Ireland with full refugee status. [1936/00]

Applications were received from the persons in question to reside in Ireland as the family members of persons recognised as refugees here. Pending the entry into force of section 18 of the Refugee Act, 1996, which deals with applications for family reunification, my Department applies the criteria set out therein on an administrative basis. The applications in question were refused because it was not established that the applicants came within the definition of "dependent member of the family of a refugee" as provided for in section 18 of the Act.
