712 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Education and Science when less well-off students will benefit from new top off grants as indicated by his Department; if these will cover eligible students for all third level and post leaving certificate courses; the extra amount each student who benefits will receive; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Education and Science (Mr. Martin):

Considerations are ongoing on this matter and details will be announced as soon as they are finalised. In the meantime, I can confirm that the new scheme will include plc students and that I intend that the first payments to be made during the next academic year.
