Question:

734 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will appoint additional classroom assistants to a school (details supplied) in County Westmeath to ensure that the children with special needs in this school achieve their maximum potential in view of the fact that many child care assistants and classroom assistants working in primary and special schools under community employment schemes are shortly to be withdrawn. Minister for Education and Science (Mr. Martin):

The school to which the Deputy refers has only very recently applied to my Department for additional special needs assistant support. The school's application is now being examined by my Department's inspectorate. My Department will be in touch with the school as soon as the inspectorate has completed its examination.
