Vol. 513 No. 2

Written Answers. - Driving Licences.

Alan Shatter

Question:

123 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of persons over 70 licensed to drive motor vehicles; the number of persons over 70 who annually apply to renew their driving licences; and if he will reduce the cost of driving licences to persons over 70 as, over a period of years, licence renewals after attaining 70 years are substantially in excess of the costs incurred by younger persons. [2186/00]

The statistical information requested is not available in my Department. Arising from a review of the overall driving licence fee arrangements by my Department, it is proposed to introduce more equitable licence fee arrangements for persons aged more than 70 years. Legislation, which will be required to implement this change, will be introduced as soon as is practicable.
