Vol. 513 No. 2

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

53 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the position in relation to a development strategy for a harbour (details supplied) in County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2045/00]

A numerical modelling study of wave disturbance and tidal current characteristics in the harbour in question is being carried out by consultants engaged by my Department, and I expect it to be completed by the middle of this year. The results of this study will inform any decisions to be made on a strategy for provision of new or improved facilities at the harbour.

Michael Finucane

Question:

54 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the number of trips made to Killybegs by offshore supply ships during 1999; and the total revenue for Killybegs port in harbour dues as a result of its usage as a supply base for offshore oil. [2167/00]

Thirteen calls were made to Killybegs harbour during 1999 by vessels engaged in servicing offshore exploration activity. The revenue accruing to the harbour in harbour dues was £5,959.

I understand that Enterprise Oil are using the services of a local agent based in Killybegs and that they are currently considering a more extensive use of Killybegs for this year's operations on the west coast.
