29 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources when the new inshore fisheries unit will be established as promised in the review of An Action Programme for the Millennium; the proposed role of the unit; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3644/00]
I am working to develop a radical new strategic approach to the cohesive management conservation and development of our inshore fisheries, in line with the Government's commitment in the review of the action programme. The resourcing and establishment of an inshore fisheries unit in the Department to implement the new strategy will be progressed in consultation with the Minister for Finance.
