Vol. 514 No. 2

Written Answers. - Natural Heritage Areas.

John Gormley

Question:

108 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the discussions, if any, taking place between Limerick Corporation and Dúchas in relation to the Limerick wetlands; if so, the nature of these discussions; if boundaries for a bio-diversity map are being discussed; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3800/00]

The Limerick city wetlands form part of the lower Shannon Estuary proposed natural heritage area and proposed candidate special area of conservation. Limerick Corporation has been informed of these proposed designations. My Department has not been, and is not currently, discussing bio-diversity mapping with Limerick Corporation or any other local authority.

Limerick Corporation has informed my Department that it would like to have the boundary of the sites adjusted in the area of Healy's Field. The corporation has been informed that any proposed adjustment to the boundary could only be considered on scientific grounds and that if such grounds exist the matter will be re-examined.
