260 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the membership of An Bord Pleanála; the date and terms of their appointment; if the members have all the required support, such as development plans for each area, in order to make informed decisions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4220/00]
Details of the current membership of An Bord Pleanála are set out in the following table. An Bord Pleanála is a prescribed authority under section 21 of the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963, as amended, and as such, each planning authority must send to An Bord Pleanála copies of any draft or variation of a development plan it has prepared. Copies of development plans for each area are therefore available to board members in arriving at their decisions. Board members also have an inspector's report on each appeal. I have taken a variety of measures to ensure the board is adequately resourced. The number of board members has been increased from six to ten. I approved all the board's proposals for additional staffing in 1998 and 1999. The board's Exchequer grant almost doubled during the period 1995 to 1999, and has been further increased in 2000.
