Vol. 514 No. 3

Written Answers. - Local Authority Funding.

Enda Kenny

Question:

267 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the projects submitted by Castlebar Urban District Council for funding under the specific improvement grants scheme for 2000; the priority accorded to each by the council; when these were submitted; the projects selected and the funding to be provided in 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4371/00]

I refer to the reply to Question No. 223 of 1 February 2000. Castlebar UDC sought funding in 2000 under the specific improvements grants scheme for three projects: Mountain View – distributor road; Barrack Bridge – Castle Street link road and McHale Road, Castlebar. These applications, with all other applications under the specific improvement grants scheme, were considered in my Department, having regard to the need to prioritise projects, to competing demands from other local authorities and to the funds available for the scheme in 2000. The three projects mentioned were not among the Mayo local authorities' ten projects selected for funding in 2000 totalling £2,295,000. The total grant allocation to the Mayo authorities, announced on 31 January, is some £12.4 million.
