Vol. 514 No. 3

Written Answers. - Court Accommodation.

Ulick Burke

Question:

307 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the plans, if any, he has for the disposal or refurbishment of the old court house at Woodford, County Galway; the plans, if any, he has to replace it due to its poor state of repair; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4270/00]

The provision and maintenance of courthouses is the responsibility of the new Courts Service which I established on 9 November 1999 in accordance with the provisions of the Courts Service Act, 1998.

The Courts Service is currently developing a five to seven year plan to upgrade the courts building stock and projects are being prioritised on the basis of use.

I understand from the Courts Service that Woodford only sits on five days per year and accordingly there are no plans at present to undertake the refurbishment of Woodford courthouse.
