Vol. 514 No. 3

Written Answers. - Education Report.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

327 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education and Science when the Mulcahy Higher Education Authority Report on Outreach Education was sent to his Department; if the draft was printed; if so, the date in this regard; and the reason the report has not been published. [4250/00]

Following the report of the steering committee on the future development of higher education in 1995, the Higher Education Authority was requested to conduct a review of outreach centres of higher education institutions. The Higher Education Authority appointed a technical working group, under the chairmanship of Professor Noel Mulcahy, to consider a range of issues in relation to outreach centres. The technical working group first met in November 1996.

The report of the technical working group was printed in November 1999 and a pre-publication printed copy of the report was sent to my Department at the end of November 1999. An earlier draft report had been forwarded to my Department in October 1999.

I understand that the Higher Education Authority intends to publish the report in the near future and I have asked the authority to consider the recommendations in the report and advise me accordingly.
