Vol. 514 No. 3

Written Answers. - Aircraft Noise Levels.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

60 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Public Enterprise her views on whether there is a need for noise monitoring points around Dublin Airport similar to the system at Kennedy Airport, United States of America and at most major airports; and the instruction, if any, she has given or will give to Aer Rianta, the EPA or the Irish Aviation Authority in this regard. [4160/00]

I am advised by Aer Rianta that it has commissioned a consultancy study which will propose a noise management strategy, including provision of noise monitoring, at Dublin Airport. I understand this study is expected to be completed by the middle of this year. I welcome this initiative by Aer Rianta who inform me that they will continue to encourage all measures to minimise noise impact where practicable.

The regulations which apply in Ireland to aircraft noise levels are those which have been promulgated at European Union level.
