Vol. 514 No. 3

Written Answers. - Regional Airports.

Question:

62 Mr. Coveney asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the plans, if any, she has for the future of Cork Airport; if there are restrictions or lack of incentives in relation to incoming chartered traffic; and, if so, the proposals, if any, she has in this regard. [4136/00]

With regard to the future of the State airports, including Cork Airport, I submitted the recent Warburg Dillon Read report on the future strategic direction of Aer Rianta to my Cabinet colleagues on 1 February and made it publicly available. I intend to bring specific recommendations in this regard to Government as soon as possible. No decision on future plans for any of the three State airports, including Cork Airport, will be taken in advance of that.

There are no restrictions on the operation of charter services at Cork Airport. I am advised by Aer Rianta that the company is actively engaged in assisting the development of all passenger and cargo business at its airports and that marketing support is available to assist in the start up phase of new services, including charters.
