Vol. 514 No. 3

Written Answers. - STAD Case.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

104 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the meetings, if any, she has had since 7 December 1999 with residents involved in the STAD case; the position in relation to financial assistance; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4183/00]

I refer the Deputy to my response to previous parliamentary questions in regard to the STAD case, in particular Question No. 41 on 7 December 1999 and Question No. 18 on 3 November 1999.

As I indicated in my reply to those previous questions, there is an outstanding request from the residents' solicitor for a meeting. However, the information which my Department requested from the residents' solicitor about the matters to be discussed has not been received to date. On receipt of this information, a meeting can be arranged.

The Government has committed itself to providing up to £400,000, mainly towards the cost of research activities being undertaken by the residents. The Government has also offered a second package of financial assistance relating to defined areas of work by the residents' legal team arising from their research activities. To date, a total of £145,000 has been paid for research activities.
