125 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the amount of EU or Government payments made in direct aid to farmers through suckler cow premia, beef premia, beef cow and headage payments in 1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3908/00]

More than £702 million was paid out to farmers in 1999 under the various headage, premium and arable aid schemes. Of this amount, a total of £388 million was paid to farmers under the suckler cow premium, special beef premium and all headage schemes in 1999.
