Question:

171 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the complaints procedure, if any, in place for members of the public in relation to driving testers; the plans, if any, he has to review this complaints procedure; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4716/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 170 and 171 together.

All driving testers are trained in the standard procedure to be followed during a driving test; this procedure is also set out in a document circulated to testers. The procedure includes conduct in dealing with customers of the driver testing service. Testers have also been afforded specific training in the area of customer care.

A complaints procedure is in place and is followed when a complaint against a tester by a member of the public is received. The operation of the complaints procedure will be evaluated as part of the review of my Department's customer action plan.
