Vol. 514 No. 5

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Property.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

73 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Defence the plans, if any, he has to sell any property owned by his Department other than the six barracks announced; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4619/00]

As part of an ongoing review of the Department's properties, and bearing in mind the continuing pressure on land resources in major cities and towns, I have decided that as a contribution to alleviating the shortage of land for housing the following properties adjoining barracks should be disposed of on the open market:

Susan's Field, adjoining Collins Barracks, Cork

6 acres

Married Quarters, Sarsfield Barracks, Limerick

3 acres

Mellowes Field, adjoining Renmore Barracks, Galway

10 acres.

In addition, an area of 1.5 acres of the barracks in Waterford city, is to be sold.
Arrangements for the disposal of each of these properties have been put in train.
