Vol. 514 No. 5

Written Answers. - Electricity Generation.

Ivan Yates

Question:

104 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if her Department monitored the number of electricity outages over the past year; if so, if she will give details in this regard; if her Department has information on the knock on effects, if any, on telecommunications break downs; and, if not, if she will monitor and publish this data in the future. [4686/00]

The supply of electricity is currently a day-to-day operational matter for ESB and one in which I have no function.

As regards the effects of electricity outages on telecommunications, I understand that it is the practice for telecommunications networks to have their own power back-up systems which allow them to continue functioning independently during electricity outages.

In the circumstances, the question of monitoring and publishing telecommunications breakdown data does not arise.
