Vol. 514 No. 5

Written Answers. - Tax Rebates.

Bernard Allen

Question:

147 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Finance when a tax rebate promised to a person (details supplied) in County Cork will be paid. [4684/00]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that a refund of income tax issued to the taxpayer on 11 October 1999. According to the information available to the inspector of taxes, no further refund is due.

On 21 October 1999 the taxpayer informed the inspector that he had separated from his wife and was receiving an invalidity pension. His tax-free allowances were reduced to reflect these changes in his circumstances. The inspector has requested the taxpayer to forward information about his separation, e.g. whether a legally enforceable maintenance arrangement is in place, and to complete a return of income form, form 12, to enable the inspector to review the taxpayer's income tax liability. No reply has been received to date.

When he receives the requested information and the completed form 12, the inspector will review the taxpayer's liability.
