Vol. 514 No. 5

Written Answers. - Tax Allowances.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

151 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the tax free allowance of a person (details supplied) in County Kildare who is married and separately assessed; if a refund of income tax is due; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4802/00]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer's tax-free allowances are those appropriate to a single person. The inspector of taxes has no record of having received an application for the married tax free allowance from the taxpayer.

The inspector has sent a copy of the revenue leaflet IT 2 Taxation of married Persons to the taxpayer together with a form TFAI Revision of Tax-Free Allowances for 1999-2000 which the taxpayer should complete and return to the inspector.
When the inspector receives the completed documentation, he will review the taxpayer's tax-free allowances and make any necessary amendments. Any refund of income tax due to the taxpayer as a result of changes to his tax free allowances will be made by his employer.
