Vol. 514 No. 5

Written Answers. - Medical Statistics.

John Gormley

Question:

165 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Health and Children further to Parliamentary Question Nos. 252 and 253 of 9 November 1999, the reason for the huge increase in brain haemorrhages in 1999 in Ringsend, Dublin 4; if his Department will carry out a study in this regard to allay local concerns; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4756/00]

The evidence supplied in the parliamentary questions referred to do not specifically identify an increase in brain haemorrhages in the Ringsend area of Dublin. However, in view of the Deputy's concerns, I have asked the Director of Public Health, Eastern Health Board, to consider the data available in relation to the Ringsend area and to advise me if there is any basis for concern.
