280 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of convictions for driving under the influence of drugs in each of the years 1998 and 1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5073/00]
I am informed by the Garda authorities that the details sought by the Deputy are not readily available and it would require a considerable amount of Garda time to compile such information.
Details in relation to Garda prosecutions under the Road Traffic Acts, 1961, as amended, including prosecutions for driving under the influence of an intoxicant, which includes alcohol or drugs or both are contained in the Garda Commissioners Annual Crime Report 1998, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library. The 1999 report is not yet published.
