Vol. 514 No. 6

Written Answers. - Post-mortem Examinations.

Bernard Allen

Question:

285 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the discussions, if any, he has had with medical representative bodies regarding claims made for increasing fees for post-mortems. [5157/00]

I can confirm to the Deputy that my Department is conducting a review of the fees payable to pathologists and others in respect of coroners' post-mortems under the Coroners Act, 1962 (Fees and Expenses) Order, 1996.

The medical representative bodies concerned, the IHCA, the IMO and SIPTU have all been invited to make submissions in this regard and discussions have been held with the IHCA and SIPTU, who have both made submissions to date. The question of an increase in the fees has also been discussed with the Department of Finance. It is hoped to finalise the matter shortly.
