Question:

117 Mr. Gormley asked the Taoiseach the number of civil servants appointed by him and his Ministers of State to look after constituency matters; the costs involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5099/00]

There are currently five civil servants assigned to my constituency office at a cost of approximately £85,000 per annum. Three civil servants, two job-sharing, are assigned by my Department to the constituency office of the Government Chief Whip at a cost of approximately £22,000 per annum.

The staffing costs for civil servants assigned to my constituency office from the period June 1997 to date amounts to £286,840. The cost for the Minister of State's constituency office is £61,969.
